Removing U3 COMPLETELY from a thumb drive

Blogged by Brian as Main — Brian Mon 29 Sep 2008 8:32 am

If you’ve got a thumb drive that automatically launches that annoying U3 utility any time you insert the drive, you may have noticed that no matter how you fdisk it, no matter how many times you format it, you can’t get rid of that awful U3 utility. Personally, i find it completely unacceptable that a thumb drive launches a third party “helper” application into resident memory without my asking. I also find it unacceptable that this feature cannot be disabled: The disable option in the software only sets some type of “cookie” for THIS computer that you don’t want to use U3 anymore.

Nonsense.

To COMPLETELY uninstall U3, you can get an uninstall util straig from U3 here. I recommend letting them know that you are annoyed by their software and find it unacceptable that it is not easier to remove. If you don’t want to mess with even telling them why you’re removing it, you can skip straight to the download page.
